Founder & Head Coach

Shane McCauley

I started Falcons United because I believe every child should have the opportunity to play soccer, regardless of their family's financial situation. For me, free-to-play means removing one of the biggest barriers that keeps kids out of the game, and creating a club where families can focus on development, competition, friendships and belonging instead of registration fees.

My job as a coach isn't just to teach players how to play the game. It's to help them discover what they're capable of, and give them the belief and opportunity to get there.

My coaching journey began in 2013 with AYSO in New York before continuing under NCYSA here in North Carolina starting in 2016. Since then I have coached at the recreational, classic and middle school levels while earning official coaching licenses through NCYSA.

I currently lead the Falcons United U14 Boys and U17 Boys NCYSA Classic teams, with a focus on developing technically confident, intelligent and competitive players while helping them grow as teammates and individuals. Across my coaching career I have coached multiple U10 and U12 championship teams, as well as U13 and U15 teams that finished as runners-up, and helped lead the Broad Creek Middle School soccer team to a championship.

One of the most rewarding parts of coaching has been watching players develop over time, progressing from the recreational level into competitive soccer, and going on to compete in high school soccer. Seeing players grow in confidence, ability and love for the game is one of the biggest reasons I continue to coach.

  • Teams: U14 Boys and U17 Boys, NCYSA Classic
  • Licenses: U.S. Soccer E License, NCYSA Certified Goalkeeper Coach
  • Currently: pursuing his next-level coaching license

Falcons United is built to serve families throughout Carteret, Onslow, Jones and Craven Counties. My goal isn't simply to build successful teams. It's to develop players, build character, create opportunities, and build a soccer community that lasts.

  • 40+ years in the game
  • 106 goals, 89 assists in high school
  • NCAA Division I at the University of Maine

Josh has been involved in soccer for more than forty years, as a player, coach, teammate, mentor and lifelong student of the sport. His passion began at age five, starting in recreational soccer before progressing to travel soccer, where he built a strong foundation in the fundamentals.

As a high school player he played forward and enjoyed an outstanding career, recording 106 goals and 89 assists. That earned him a full athletic scholarship to play NCAA Division I soccer at the University of Maine, where he transitioned to left back and developed a deeper understanding of the game from the defensive side.

He has coached at youth, junior varsity and varsity level, and spent six years as an assistant coach at Genesee Community College. During that time the team competed at the National Tournament five out of six years, including a National Championship in 2017.

After more than four decades in soccer, Josh believes the greatest lessons of the game extend far beyond the field: discipline, teamwork, perseverance, accountability, communication, decision making, and putting the team before yourself.
